The Sahrawi peseta since the Madrid Agreement for the political status of the Western Sahara from 25 November 1975 nominally the currency of only partially internationally recognized state Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic . It is divided into 100 céntimos, but there are no coins or banknotes in this sub-unit.

Since the territory of Western Sahara is largely controlled by Morocco, the common currency in circulation is the Moroccan dirham . The Mauritanian Ouguiya also circulates to a lesser extent in the south .

Since it is not the currency of an internationally fully recognized state and its distribution is limited to a relatively small area under the control of the Polisario , the exchange rate is only symbolic. In the Madrid Agreement, the parity to the Spanish peseta was fixed, since the latter was replaced by the euro, the rate has been € 1 = 166.386 pts or 100 pts = € 0.6010.

Coins

Course coins for everyday use were issued by the Polisario. The coins are made of a copper-nickel alloy and come in denominations of 1, 2, 5 and 50 pesetas.
