Koenigsberger Allgemeine Zeitung

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Königsberger Allgemeine Zeitung was a daily newspaper in Königsberg (Prussia) . Their influence extended far beyond East Prussia's provincial capital.

history

Alfred Hausbrand , the owner of the Kochschen Buchhandlung , founded the "Kommunalblatt für Königsberg and the Province of Prussia" in 1875 . Alexander Wyneken joined the editorial team in 1876 and soon became editor-in-chief and business director of the newspaper. After Hausbrand's death, the Simon Brothers bank bought the paper, which was renamed “Königsberger Allgemeine Zeitung” in 1882 .

In 1887 the Königsberger Allgemeine Zeitung und Verlagsdruckerei GmbH relocated from Fleischbänkenstrasse in Kneiphof to Münzerstrasse. In 1906 she moved into a new building on Theaterstrasse, which was located on the grounds of the Hotel Deutsches Haus .

In 1927 the newspaper had to expand its operations and add the neighboring house. In 1930 Robert Volz took over the management of the KAZ.

The newspaper was close to the German People's Party . She remained true to her liberal attitude to the end.

“In general, the basic political direction of the [Königsberg] student was national and probably more liberal than conservative. The “Königsberger Allgemeine Zeitung”, which Wyneken ran moderately and generously in this sense, was widely read. It was precisely because of this that it was important for the formation of the political will of the population; because it was read "from the privy councilor to the woman on the apple barn", which Wyneken occasionally pointed out to his party friends who wanted a sharper key. Hardly any other German newspaper is likely to have found its way through all social classes on such a scale. "
