As King chain one is necklace chain called, the members of which are intertwined in a special way. It looks very compact.

The classic king's chain is made from round wire . In today's machine production, however, hollow wire is often used in order to save material and reduce the weight of the chain . The similar eyelets of round or oval shape are processed in pairs in a king's chain. First, two of the eyelets are placed horizontally on top of one another. Passing through this vertically, two further eyelets are again initially hung parallel to one another. A third pair of eyelets is now pulled horizontally and parallel through the second pair. However, this third pair is then pulled apart: Each of the two eyelets is rotated 180 degrees and thereby folded backwards so that they then encompass the second pair of eyelets towards the rear. Finally, the vertical second pair is spread apart and a fourth pair of eyelets is guided vertically between the spread second pair through the third pair, which is now accessible and lying on top of one another on this side. This fixes the second pair in its spread and the third in its folded back position. This fourth pair remains parallel to each other like the first, only that in contrast to this it is perpendicular.

At this point the pattern starts over. However, due to the vertical position of the fourth pair of chains, it is now shifted by a quarter turn. In this way, the chain is continued, so that a network of two parallel, horizontally and vertically arranged pairs of rings is created, which are connected to one another by two further pairs, each diagonally enclosing one another. Each individual eyelet remains freely movable.

Today the chain is often z. B. processed by rolling so that the eyes are deformed and the cross-section of the chain appears almost square. Diverse imaginative forms have also been created through the processing of chain links of different sizes or shapes and other various types of decorations and color combinations.
