Royal Mosque (Berat)

The King's Mosque (or Sultan Mosque , Emperor's Mosque ; Albanian  Xhamia e Mbretit / Xhamia Mbret or Xhamia e Sulltanit ) is an important historical building in the central Albanian town of Berat . Since 1948 it has been one of the cultural monuments of Albania. The mosque was built in 1492 by the Ottoman Sultan Bayezid II , hence the name. It got its current appearance in the 18th century.

The Royal Mosque stands in the Mangalem district next to the 17th century caravanserai and the 18th century Helveti-Tekke .

The mosque consists of the minaret and the square main building, which houses the large prayer room. There is also a wooden gallery for women with many decorations.
