The Külpstraße in the urban area Old Town in Stralsund connects the Schillstraße , at the height of St. John's Abbey , and the Old Market . The Fährstraße goes off the Külpstraße. The street is part of the core area of the UNESCO World Heritage Historic Old Towns Stralsund and Wismar .

The street was initially called platea fratrum (Brothers Street) because it leads directly from the Alter Markt to the Johanniskloster . The Külp family from Stralsund, which was very important from the 14th to the 15th century , more precisely their representative Johannes von Külpen, who also became mayor in 1407, gave the street its name Külpstraße.

Eight of the buildings in the street are under monument protection (see also list of architectural monuments in Stralsund ), namely the houses Külpstraße 5 , Külpstraße 6 , Külpstraße 8 , Külpstraße 9 and Külpstraße 10 , Külpstraße 11 , Külpstraße 12 and Külpstraße 13 .

The city's first barracks stood in Külpstrasse (today's building at Külpstrasse 8). Before that, or its predecessor, from the Thirty Years' War until the early 19th century, it was the official building of the city's first syndic. In the house at Külpstraße 12 there was a private girls' school and a lyceum .
