Schillstrasse (Stralsund)
The Schillstraße in the urban area Old Town in Stralsund connects the Fährstraße and cup maker street with Mönchstraße . The Külpstraße connects the Schillstraße with the Alter Markt , the Knieper road crosses the Schillstraße near the Knieper Gate . The street is part of the core area of the UNESCO World Heritage Historic Old Towns Stralsund and Wismar .
Schillstrasse was named in 1869 after Ferdinand von Schill , who was killed on May 31, 1809 in Fährstrasse.
Before it was renamed, the street was divided into three sections. The section between Fährstraße and Külpstraße was called Hinter St. Johannis , referring to the adjacent Johanniskloster with church. Between the Külpstrasse and the Knieperstrasse was called Kesserhagen ; the explanation for this is controversial - the name was probably derived from the landing net . In the 16th century, this section was also called Munthestrate , which was derived from the local mint (coin). The section between Knieperstrasse and Mönchstrasse, near the Hospitaler Tor , was called Fischerstrasse until 1869 .
17 of the buildings in the street are under monument protection (see also list of architectural monuments in Stralsund ), namely the houses Schillstrasse 5 , Schillstrasse 6 , Schillstrasse 7 a – c , Schillstrasse 8 , Schillstrasse 18 , Schillstrasse 19 , Schillstrasse 20 , Schillstrasse 27/28 (Johanniskloster) , Schillstrasse 30 , Schillstrasse 31 , Schillstrasse 32 , Schillstrasse 34 , Schillstrasse 35 , Schillstrasse 36 , Schillstrasse 37 , Schillstrasse 38 and Schillstrasse 39 ( provision store ). In addition, the front door of the house at Schillstrasse 21 and the courtyard building at Schillstrasse 29 are listed as historical monuments.
