The puristic, cubic clinker brick architecture by Swiss architects Andrea Deplazes and Valentin Bearth is a unique museum art house that opened in 2001 in Marktoberdorf . The basis of the museum is the art collection of the Art and Culture Foundation Dr. Violinist house. Through purchases from the "Ostallgäu Art Exhibition" held annually in Marktoberdorf, the city is building up a collection of Swabian art and making it available to the Künstlerhaus on permanent loan. The Swabian art collection currently comprises more than 250 paintings, drawings, photographs and sculptures. Since 2006 the "Ostallgäu Art Exhibition" has been presented in the Künstlerhaus Marktoberdorf.
