Pumpkin throwing
Pumpkin chucking (eng. Pumpkin chunking ), the spin of vegetables (mostly pumpkins called by mechanical structures over large distances) and is used for entertainment. The machines that are constantly being developed include slingshots , catapults and air cannons. The range achieved by the machines depends largely on their mass, shape and size. In addition, the elasticity, the throw and the wind speed play a role. The most suitable pumpkins are particularly small, regular, and firmly grown. They are used as a cannonball. One rule is that the pumpkin must be complete as it leaves the device. The pumpkins are specially grown and are not suitable for eating.
Punkin 'chunkin'
"Punkin 'Chunkin'" is a world championship of pumpkin throwing held in Millsboro , in the North American state of Delaware , which takes place annually on the first weekend after Halloween. Competing teams build and launch a variety of devices that hurl pumpkins. Teams of the same machines compete against each other. The furthest measured throw so far is 1324.8 meters and comes from an air pressure cannon. Approximately 100 teams (including the youth sections) apply annually.
The competition originally started in 1986. Although pumpkin cannons typically shoot further than other types of launchers, each type is usually present every year. For each launching device, the best of three shots with duds (punkin pie) that count as 0 meters is scored. White pumpkins are mostly chosen for shooting, as they can withstand the forces of the start better than the typical orange ones.
The only accident that has happened so far was a duck hit by a pumpkin.
There is also a spectator entertainment area with food vendors. Locals can compete against each other with their favorite pumpkin recipes in a cooking contest.
Since 2004 there has also been a European championship in Bikschote , Belgium . The furthest European distance is 305 meters. There are also other, smaller competitions in the United States.
