Coastal Patent (Croatia)

As coastal Patent are boat licenses in Croatia called. There are patents Boat Skipper A , B and C and the Yachtmaster A . The designation is misleading insofar as in Germany the designation “patent” is used almost exclusively for certificates of proficiency in professional shipping.

In Croatia all boats and ships with a motor must have a driving license

  • The Boat Skipper A entitles to drive boats up to a length of seven meters and a motor power of 8  kW within a coastal strip up to six nautical miles from the coast is (driving range III). The minimum age for permission is 16 years.
  • The Boat Skipper B entitled to sailboats and motor boats up to 30  GT lead. The permit is valid for sailing yachts, motor yachts and jet vehicles; the engine power is not limited. Permission is granted from the age of 16, for commercial use from the age of 18 and only for driving area III).
  • The Boat Skipper C includes commercial use for boats up to 30 GT with no engine power limitation. The permit is granted for a period of five years; a new medical examination is then requested.
  • The Yachtmaster A allows private and commercial operation of sailing and motor ships up to 100 or 200 GT. The permit is valid for five years (only for commercial activity); a new medical examination is required after it has expired.

Croatia is a member of the IMO ( International Maritime Organization ). There are agreements between all Mediterranean countries on the recognition of boat driving licenses. Training and exams are coordinated among the members of the organization.
