Kōji Funamoto ( Japanese 船 本 幸 路 , Funamoto Kōji ; born August 12, 1942 in Hiroshima , Hiroshima Prefecture ) is a former Japanese football goalkeeper .

youth

From 1958 to 1960 he played for the team at Hiroshima University High School. He and his teammates Aritatsu Ogi , Yasuyuki Kuwahara , Takayuki Kuwata , Kensei Mizote, and Sonkyo Nomura were known for finishing second in the national school tournament in 1959. In 1960 Ogi, Kuwahara, Funamoto, and Mizote reached the quarterfinals with their team. Immediately after school, Funamoto moved to a soccer club while Kuwahara and Kuwata played at Chuo University for four years before they joined Toyo Industries .

Club career

Funamoto joined the Toyo Industries association in 1961 . Toyo won the tournament at the National Sports Festival in 1962. In 1965 the club became a founding member of the Japan Soccer League (JSL), the first national league. He stayed with his club for 11 seasons until he retired in 1975. He played all 166 league games in those 11 seasons.

With Funamoto and his schoolmates, Toyo dominated the JSL for the first six years and won the championship five times from 1965 to 1970 and was runner-up in 1969. During this time, the club won the Kaiser Cup three times .

National team

In 1967, Funamoto made his debut for the Japanese national soccer team . Funamoto made 19 international appearances.
