Kōji Kawamoto

Kōji Kawamoto ( Japanese 川 本 貢 司 , Kawamoto Kōji ; * 1972 in Masuda , Shimane Prefecture ) is a Japanese conductor. Since September 2008, Kawamoto has held the position of chief conductor of the Pilsen Radio Symphony Orchestra . Kawamoto is the first Japanese chief conductor in the Czech Republic.

biography

Kawamoto studied conducting, piano and composition at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music . His teachers included Hiroshi Wakasugi , Francis Travis , Masahisa Endō , Hiroyuki Odano , Gustav Meier ( USA ), Sergiu Celibidache and Valery Gergiev (master class at the university).

At the age of 21, Kawamoto won 3rd prize at the Tokyo International Music Competition for Conducting in 1994 .

In 2001 Kawamoto gave his successful debut concert in Europe with famous opera works by Giuseppe Verdi on the occasion of the composer's anniversary year. Thereupon he was hired as 1st Kapellmeister at the Theater Vorpommern , where he worked in this position until 2007. In 2003, at Toyota's invitation, he led the Northeast German Philharmonic on an extensive tour through 6 countries in Southeast Asia.

From 2004 to 2007 he taught the master class in conducting and accompaniment at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok as a visiting professor .

In May 2007 he won a prize at the 59th International Prague Spring Competition in Prague .
