Kōjirō Umezaki

Kōjirō Umezaki ( Japanese 梅 崎 康二郎 , Umezaki Kōjirō ; * 1968 ) is a Japanese shakuhachi player and composer.

Umezaki studied western flute and shakuhachi in Tokyo and electro-acoustic music at Dartmouth College . He is Assistant Professor of Music at the University of California at Irvine , where he is a member of the Integrated Composition, Improvisation, and Technology Group . As a specialist in electro-acoustic live music and multimedia art, he works regularly with Yo-Yo Mas Silk Road Ensemble and the Canadian jazz trio Beats in Fractions . He worked as a film music composer and gave concerts a. a. in the US, Canada, China, Cuba, Brazil, Iceland and Japan. Recordings appeared on the labels Sony BMG , World Village and Smithsonian Folkways . In 2010 he produced the album for the group Huun-Huur-Tu Ancestors Call .
