The K-43 as a chakra in the Indian Navy

The K-43 was a Soviet submarine of the Charlie-class submarine with nuclear propulsion , which from the late 1980s by the Indian Navy has been leased. The boat was laid down in Gorky on January 26, 1971 and, after being launched in 1972, moved to Severodvinsk for final equipment. In 1984 it was extensively modernized and in 1987 it was handed over to the Indian Navy , where it was in service as the S-71 Chakra from 1988 . In addition, specialists from the Soviet Navy were on board for the time of the leasing to prevent espionage and to ensure the operation of the submarine. In January 1991, after a reactor incident on board, it was returned and finally in 1992 it was scheduled for scrapping.
