The SR-25 is a Designated Marksman Rifle from the United States that is manufactured by the Knight's Armament Company (KAC). The abbreviation stands for Stoner Rifle 25 .
draft
The weapon was created with the aim of combining the firepower of a self-loading rifle with the precision of a classic cylinder bolt action rifle. Self-loading rifles offer the possibility of faster firing sequences , as there is no need to reload manually and target acquisition is not interrupted when repeating. However, the accuracy is impaired by the gas extraction for the loading mechanism and the throwing back of the slide during the discharge of the shot. In the case of cylinder bolt rifles, on the other hand, the firing pin is the only part of the weapon that moves after the trigger is actuated .
The basis of the development was the AR-10 by Eugene Stoner . It is thus part of the weapon family that also includes the M16 , with many caliber-independent components being interchangeable.
According to the tenders of different branches of the American military, different variants emerged, which were officially adopted in the equipment:
model | assignment | Length (mm) |

SR-25M | US Marine Corps | 1118 | 4.31 |
MK 11 Mod 0 | US Navy | 1158 | 6.9 |
M110 | US Army | 1180 | 7.26 |
technology
Like the original models, the SR-25 works as a gas pressure charger with the powder gases acting directly on the bolt carrier; there is no gas piston. A closing aid ( forward assist ) as with the M16 was omitted, and an open visor is also missing. Rifle scopes and night vision devices are mounted on Picatinny rails . A silencer can be attached to the barrel muzzle, which does not completely cancel out the bang of the shot, but can make it more diffuse and, together with the suppression of the muzzle flash, make it difficult for the enemy to locate the shooter.
The rifle was modified and replaced as the M110 SASS the M24 repeater and, like that one, fires 7.62 mm NATO ammunition. To be a full replacement for the M24, it achieves an accuracy of less than one angular minute (when using precise match loads) . The barrel is mounted on the system housing in such a way that it can swing freely without touching the fore-end.
