The KDE control center alias KControl was the central program for configuring the K Desktop Environment .

The control center consists of several modules that represent separate applications, but are displayed in an organized and standardized manner by the control center. The modular structure enables any extensions to be built into the control center.

The default settings that can be made in the Control Center refer to

  • the connected devices
  • the appearance of KDE
  • the KDE components such as the KDE services
  • the regional settings and access aids
  • the security
  • the Konqueror
  • the sound server
  • general system features such as the KDM login manager and the time

From version 4.0 of the KDE Software Compilation (formerly K Desktop Environment ) the System Settings program has replaced KControl.
