With the KDE program KPDF , PDF documents can be viewed under KDE . KPDF uses the Xpdf program library and can be compared with Adobe Reader from Adobe . Like all other KDE programs, it is free software and available under the GNU General Public License .
The universal document viewer Okular replaces KPDF since KDE 4.0.
particularities
KPDF gives the user the ability to browse and mark text passages. Marked texts or also marked pictures can then be copied to the clipboard and further processed in other programs. Furthermore, PDF files can be displayed in a special presentation mode in which only the contents of the files are displayed without the rest of the desktop environment.
The close integration of KPDF with KDE is expressed, among other things, in the fact that the KDE speech synthesis unit can be used to read PDF files out loud. KPDF can also be loaded as a plug-in within the Konqueror browser in order to display PDF files in the browser.
KPDF allows (in contrast to Adobe Reader) that open files can be changed by other programs. This makes it suitable to display documents generated by LaTeX and to have them updated automatically.
KPDF is also suitable for searching through large PDF files. During the first search, an index of the PDF document is created with which further search queries can be processed much more quickly.
