A large number of user-friendly application programs have been and are being developed for KDE . KDE is a free desktop environment , which means a graphical user interface with many additional programs for everyday use. This is primarily intended for computers running a Unix-like operating system, such as B. BSD , Linux or Solaris , the latest version KDE 4.x works natively on systems like Mac OS and Windows.

Below is a list of most of the popular programs written for KDE. They are divided into categories that are mostly used by KDE.

  • kcron: Helps you plan regularly recurring tasks
  • KDar: backup and backup program
  • kdat: streamer control
  • KDE partition manager: Management of hard disks, partitions and file systems
  • KDirStat: graphic display of the folder allocation
  • kpackage: package management
  • KSysguard : process and system monitoring
  • KSystemLog: Viewer for system logs
  • ksysv: runlevel editor
  • kuser: user administration
  • secpolicy: Display of the PAM security rules

  • Calligra Suite : word processing (Words), spreadsheet (Sheets), presentation program (Stage), program for flowcharts (Flow), vector graphic program (Karbon), integrated database (Kexi), project management (Plan), pixel-based painting and image processing program (Krita)
  • Kile : LaTeX user interface
  • KLyx: Frontend for LyX , which enables an editor and WYSIWYM word processing with the TeX typesetting system (KLyx is no longer being developed because Lyx itself has a graphical user interface)
  • KMyMoney : Financial management for home users similar to Microsoft Money and Intuit Quicken
  • TaskJuggler : project management software
