KStars is a free astronomy program on the basis of KDE - platform 4 . You can use it to explore the night sky from your desk for any location and any date . It draws the positions of stars , constellations , star clusters , nebulae , galaxies and planets on the screen and contains over 100 million stars, 13,000 deep sky objects, our entire solar system and thousands of comets and asteroids. The display can be moved and enlarged or reduced, and objects can also be identified and followed as they move across the sky .

KStars allows extensive customizations. You can set which objects should be displayed with which colors and images of every part of the sky can be downloaded from online databases. Suitable telescopes can be controlled with KStars and recordings can be made with CCD cameras. The needs of modern amateur astronomy are met.

In addition to the version for desktop computers, there is a lite version for Android for use on smartphones and tablets .
