digiKam is a free picture management program for Linux , Windows and macOS . With the help of the software, images can be archived, sorted, edited and published.
digiKam was initially developed on the basis of KDE Platform 4 . In the course of converting the source code to the Qt 5 libraries , the application released many KDE dependencies with the release of version 5.0.0, which should facilitate porting to other platforms . For the metadata of the archive, the software uses a database with which it is possible to find the image you are looking for using the Exif data of the images, keywords or ratings. The images can be categorized using self-selected keywords or put together in albums. A similarity search is also offered with a comparison image or a sketch as a template. A function for face recognition, with which people can be automatically assigned to one another, is included from version 2.0.
In addition to the integrated Digikam-specific image plugins, the program can access the KIPI interface, with which images can be processed individually or in batch processing mode . A main function is the graphic interface to gPhoto 2, with which digiKam can address over 1000 digital camera models. Scanners can also be used via SANE .
The software supports all common raster graphics formats such as JFIF , JPEG 2000 , TIFF , PNG , PGF and, via DCRaw, also RAW data and the digital negative format DNG . By default digiKam creates an SQLite database, but from version 1.3.0 it can also handle local and network connected MySQL databases. Utilities for creating photo calendars, HTML galleries and extensive batch processing for file formats, image size, frames, white balance, etc. complete the package. OpenStreetMap is also supported from version 1.0. Face recognition is implemented with the help of the OpenCV program library .
ShowPhoto
The program package from digiKam also includes the image display and processing program ShowFoto . Like digiKam, ShowFoto can use the KIPI plug-in structure and provides the following image processing functions:
- automatic or manual white balance
- Compensation of lens distortion and vignetting
- Perspective correction
- Reduction of noise and hot pixels
- Sharpening and sharpness reduction ( bokeh simulation)
- Change in contrast and tone value adjustment
- GPS locator
- Metadata editor
- Light table
- Color space management (16 bit) via LittleCMS
- Export functions to various online galleries ( Flickr , Gallery2 , Facebook , SmugMug , 23HQ , iPod , Wikimedia Commons , etc.)
