rekonq (acronym for Spanish Reconquistador , Rücker Upper ) was a within KDE developed web browser . He uses WebKit as an HTML rendering engine and thus inherits its high compatibility with web standards. It is considered to be an intuitive, competitive browser that is resource-efficient and fast.

As usual with KDE applications, it is written in C ++ and is distributed as free software, also in source code, under the conditions of Version 3 of the GNU General Public License (GPL). It integrates into the KDE Plasma Workspaces .

Functions

rekonq shares a common cookie and bookmark system with Konqueror , saves passwords in the central password management system KWallet and uses KGet for downloads . The minimalist user interface is based heavily on Chrome in many aspects . An extension interface that is compatible with Chrome is under development. A function to block advertising is already integrated. Functions for selective avoidance ("private mode") or for deleting surfing data ("delete private data") are available.

technology

rekonq is based on QtWebKit, a module of the user interface toolkit Qt , which is the basis for the entire KDE software compilation , which enables Qt applications to render and interact with websites using WebKit. It uses the KDE input / output system (KIO) and uses the standard tools of the KDE software compilation for numerous functions.

history

rekonq was developed as a spin-off from the Qt demonstration application "QtDemoBrowser" created by Nokia . On May 25, 2010, it was added to the "Extragear" division of KDE. From version 10.10 to 13.10 rekonq was the standard browser at Kubuntu . rekonq is now standard with Chakra GNU / Linux .
