Okular is a universal document viewer . It is distributed as free software under the GNU General Public License (GPL) as part of KDE Applications 5 , builds on KPDF and replaces the individual programs KPDF, KGhostView, KFax, KFaxview, KView and KDVI in KDE SC 4.
development
Okular was launched by Piotr Szymanski at the Google Summer of Code 2005. Compared to KPDF, Okular now also offers a system for bookmarks and annotations, support for forms and multimedia content, multi-column display and the rotation of the pages.
As of version 0.15, comments are saved in the PDF document. This version was released together with KDE 4.9. In previous versions, comments and annotations were not saved directly in the file, but in an external XML file.
The porting to Qt 5 was completed with version 1.0 from December 2016 . The version numbering jumped from 0.26 to 1.0.
