FictionBook is an open, XML- based e-book format with the filename extension .fb2 . It is very common on the Russian-speaking Internet, where there are also very large e-book libraries that offer books in this format. Among other things, it is used to automatically convert texts into other formats such as PDF , HTML or a plain text file .

The standard was proposed by Mark Lipsman ( Russian Марк Липсман ) and developed by a group of developers led by Dmitri Gribow ( Дмитрий Грибов ) and Mikhail Maznew ( Михаил Мацнев ).

technical description

FictionBook does not describe the appearance, but the structure of the text and can contain metadata such as author, title and ISBN , but can also refer to an image of the book cover .

What a text will look like is determined by the settings of the program with which the file is opened. A viewer program would display a title in bold or highlight it in color, but when converted to HTML the title will be enclosed in <h1> tags that a web browser can interpret.
