background

To ascertain the situation of young scientists in Germany, the educational reporting is supplemented by the Federal Report on the Promotion of Young Scientists (BuWiN). Based on the findings of the BuWiN, the KISSWIN project was developed as a communication and information system on the Internet. The subject of this project is the development of an internet platform which can be used to generate and disseminate information on the situation of young scientists in Germany as well as on relevant career paths and funding opportunities.

Development and content

After the project started in November 2007 and a development phase, the KISSWIN.de internet platform was launched as part of the kick-off conference “Desire for a scientific career in Germany! Paths, funding and networks at a glance ”in the bcc Berlin Congress Center on October 28, 2008 online . The internet platform offers all the relevant information on career paths and funding opportunities as well as on the central contact persons and organizations in Germany as a research location. A permanent further development of the internet platform, both in terms of content and function, can be seen. The content layout is under joint editorial of the Center for Learning and Knowledge Management / Department of Information Management in Mechanical Engineering (ZLW / IMA) of the RWTH Aachen 4.0 Technology transfer and research funding implemented and of the Department of the RWTH Aachen. The portal currently offers:

  • Information on academic career paths, funding opportunities, funding organizations
  • Funding research, databases
  • Job exchange
  • Editorial news, reports and appointments
  • Community and forum

In addition, young scientists can receive individual and free advice from experts via an email and telephone service and ask their questions on topics relating to careers and funding in the German research landscape.
