The 26 questions of the Knobel Prize were published on a weekly basis in BR-alpha and on the Internet . The individual questions each consisted of a short film of around three minutes. Small weekly prizes were awarded for each question. In addition, an overall solution had to be determined that resulted from additional questions about the films.

The deadline for submission was around six months (26 weekly questions) after the first questions appeared. Those who sent the correct overall solution received a certificate. In the individual issues, the number of correct overall solutions was between 40 and 50. The winners of the main prizes were determined in a final in a kind of scavenger hunt .
