KUAR-FM (also UALR-Public Radio ) is a public American radio broadcaster in Little Rock in the US state of Arkansas . It is operated by the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and Ben Fry is the managing director. KUAR-FM can be received on the FM frequency 89.1 MHz .

KUAR takes over the news channel from NPR and has a strong relationship with Arkansas news and culture. Jazz programs are broadcast at night.

history

KUAR-FM went on air in 1986 as a satellite station of the NPR station KLRE-FM (UKW 90.5). KLRE has broadcast since 1973 and was owned by the Little Rock School District. In 1988 KUAR-FM took over the entire NPR news and talk channel and KLRE only broadcast classical music.
