The two-axle diesel multiple unit KWOe T1 of Kleinbahn Wittingen – Oebisfelde (KWOe) was built in 1933 by the Gotha wagon factory in Gotha . Three years later, the company received another railcar from the same manufacturer, the KWOe T2 , which showed minor differences.

They belonged to a series of 13 railcars from the company for various small railways with different technical data. Both railcars were taken over by the Osthannoverschen Eisenbahn and were given the designation DT0504 / 0505 . The DT 0504 was used by various railway companies and is still available today (2019).

History and commitment

In 1933, the KWOe began operating the railcar with the T1. A photo and a newspaper article from the Isenhagener Kreisblatt have been preserved from that time, which describes the original condition of the car in detail. The company's first railcar did not yet have a pulling and buffing device . The main area of application of the car was initially on the line to the Mariaglück potash mine .

Three years later, the KWOe acquired the second railcar, which was already fitted with pulling and buffing equipment ex works. He also had a small window in the side wall next to the corner of the front wall. This was preferred on the Wittingen – Oebisfelde railway line and later also on the Soltau – Neuenkirchen railway line .

OHE DT0504 and DT0505

Both railcars were taken over by the Osthannoversche Eisenbahn OHE in 1944 and were given their names there. In the years 1952/1953, the original headlights of the former KWOe T1 (DT0504) were exchanged for add-on headlights and a pulling and pushing device for carrying cars was added.

The DT0505 was retired and scrapped in 1964.

The DT0504 received a safety driving circuit in 1965 and was used until 1973.

MBS 22

Then the DT0504 was sold to the museum railway Museum Buurtspoorweg in the Netherlands and was given the designation MBS 22.

AVL DT 0504

In 1991 the vehicle found a new owner with the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Verkehrsfreunde Lüneburg and was able to be refurbished again until 1995. Since then, the railcar has been running on the OHE network, especially with tour groups. He bears the NVR number 95 80 0504 018-2 D-TEL .

Technical features / equipment

The railcars had revolving doors. In the boarding room the driver had his place of work on the right side. Originally he had to do his work standing.

Between the entry rooms there were two smoker / non-smoker compartments, which were separated from each other and from the entry area by partition walls with revolving doors. The benches were upholstered and made comfortable for the travelers. The railcar was equipped with a toilet. The two middle compartment windows on the side walls were made of fixed glazing, the other compartment windows could be lowered to the center of the window with cranks.

The diesel-mechanical railcar had a Daimler-Benz OM 65 engine ex works . It can no longer be determined whether the Mylius transmission was also the original equipment. The engine and gearbox were directly connected to one another and suspended between the axles. In 1952/1953 the engines were exchanged for those of the type KHD A4M513 .

The car was designed for one-man operation and had a dead man's mechanism . For the machinery, the service life was designed for a mileage of 90,000 km per year for a period of six years, with which it was in use until 1952.
