history

Beginnings and successes

The Hometown Jamboree was created in 1949 by country musician Cliffie Stone . It was practically the successor to the Dinner Bell Roundup , also broadcast by KXLA, and marked the beginning of the successful series of West Coast shows such as the Town Hall Party , Tex Ritters Ranch Party and the California Hayride . The Hometown Jamboree was very popular from the start and was later televised. The shows initially took place at the American Legion Stadium in El Monte ; after five years they moved to the Harmony Park Ballroom in Anaheim , “ to get closer to its audience ” was the motto.

The house band of the Hometown Jamborees consisted of many talented and well-known musicians of the time, such as Merle Travis , Speedy West , Jimmy Bryant and Billy Strange . Cliffie Stone acted as a presenter in addition to his work as producer and promoter of the show. Many successful country musicians were members of the show; Ferlin Husky , Tennessee Ernie Ford , Eddie Kirk , Charlie Aldrich , Red Sovine and Johnny Horton were just a few of them.

The End

In 1959, the Hometown Jamboree was closed after ten years of broadcasting time. Many of the ensemble members had left the show or even the west coast and turned to other projects.
