Kałdus

Kałdus ( German Kaldus ; 1942–1945 Kalthaus ) is a village about 3 km southwest of Chełmno ( Culm ) in Poland . The village has 230 inhabitants.

Archaeological excavations

At Góra św. Wawrzyńca ( Lorenzberg ), an elevation in the north of the village, was one of the largest economic and administrative centers on the Vistula in the early Middle Ages during the rule of the Piasts . Archaeological research carried out by the University of Toruń since 1996 , following on from excavations carried out since the late 19th century, revealed the existence of an incomplete early Romanesque basilica from the first half of the 11th century and large burial grounds, including chamber graves of settlers of Scandinavian origin, proven.
