In soil science, raw soil is a soil whose original material is hardly weathered . The soil types Syrosem (OO) and Lockersyrosem (OL) belong to the class of terrestrial raw soils (Class O ).

Due to the low soil development, raw soils have only one other, barely pronounced horizon in addition to the starting material :

• Ai: topsoil horizon (A) in the initial stage (i = initial).
• C: Almost unweathered starting material (C). In the case of the Syrosem, this is massive rock ; in contrast, in the case of loose syrosis, loose material such as sand .

Due to the physical and chemical weathering of the raw material, the raw soil stage is often quickly exceeded, so that more differentiated soil types are formed. Raw soils are therefore naturally only found in locations prone to erosion, such as in mountains or dune fields . Due to human influence, they are much more common today, as they also arise on eroded slopes, relocated materials in civil engineering , dumps or little-used roads .

Very closely related are the O / C soils ( rock humus soil and skeletal humus soil ), which consist of an organic layer over the unweathered hard or loose rock. Raw soils have no organic layer: their first horizon consists of mineral soil ( A horizon ).
