Kaana Siib Kanna Saar was the national anthem of the independent Somaliland, which existed for a few days in 1960.
history
As part of the decolonization of Africa , the colony of British Somaliland became independent on June 26, 1960 . A national anthem was composed for the independence celebration by RAY Mitchell, conductor of the Royal Highland Fusiliers military band . It was based on local folk music, there was no text.
On July 1, 1960, Somaliland united with Italian Somaliland , which gained independence on that day, to form the Republic of Somalia . After that, Kaana Siib Kanna Saar was no longer used as a national anthem.
The national anthem of Somaliland , which has existed since 1991, is Samo ku waar .
