Samo ku waar is the national anthem of the Republic of Somaliland , an internationally hardly recognized state in the north of Somalia . The anthem comes from the Somali poet , songwriter and author Hassan Sheikh Moomin and was introduced in 1997.

From the independence of the former British Somaliland on June 26, 1969 to the unification with the Italian Trust Territory Somalia to Somalia on July 1, 1969, the area already had a national anthem.
