My St. Helena Island (also My Saint Helena Island ) is the unofficial national song of the island of St. Helena . As part of the British overseas territory of St. Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha , the island does not have its own national anthem . God Save the Queen is played onofficial occasions.

The National Song of St. Helena was composed and lyrics in 1975 by Dave Mitchell , who was never on the island. It will be played on the radio and until the connection is terminated when the RMS St. Helena leaves.

Original text (in English)

My heart is drifting southward
To my home down in the sea
It's the isle of St. Helena
Where my loved ones wait for me
Long since I left it
But I'll be going home soon
To my St. Helena island
And swear I'll never roam
Diamonds they are pretty
So is your fancy cars
But St. Helena island
Is prettier by far
All the wonders of this world
I'm told they number seven
But St. Helena Island
Is the nearest one to heaven
Diamonds they are pretty
So is your fancy cars
But St. Helena island
Is prettier by far
Someday if the Lord above
Comes out of heaven's gate
I'm sure he'll pick St. Helena
And use it as His place

Free German translation

My heart is drifting south
To my home down in the sea
It is the island of St. Helena
Where my loved ones are waiting for me
Ever since I left it
But I'll be home soon
To my island of St. Helena
And I swear I'll never leave
Diamonds are beautiful
Such are your beautiful cars
But the island of St. Helena
Is even more beautiful
All the wonders of the world
I was told resigned to seven
But the island of St. Helena
Is the closest to heaven.
Diamonds are beautiful
Such are your beautiful cars
But the island of St. Helena
Is even more beautiful
One day when the god from above
Comes from his heavenly gate
I am sure that he will choose St. Helena
And use it as his home.

Trivia
