Stand and Sing of Zambia, Proud and Free

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stand and Sing of Zambia, Proud and Free or Lumbanyeni Zambia ( Stand and Sing of Zambia, Proud and Free ) is the national anthem of Zambia . It was adopted in 1964 after Zambia gained independence. There are text versions in English and in Bemba . The melody was taken from the hymn Nkosi Sikelel 'iAfrika (God bless Africa), which was composed by the South African Enoch Mankayi Sontonga in 1897. The same melody also serves as the national anthem of Tanzania and forms the first part of the national anthem of South Africa .

Mu luunga lwa calo.
Lumbanyeni Zambia.
Twikatane bonse.

Stand and sing of Zambia, proud and free,
Land of work and joy in unity,
Victors in the struggle for the right,
We have won freedom's fight.
All one, strong and free.

Praise be to God.
Praise be, praise be, praise be,
Bless our great nation,
Zambia, Zambia, Zambia.
Free men we stand
Under the flag of our land.
Zambia, praise to thee!
All one, strong and free.
