Cable multiplex and compression center

HR premises in Frankfurt am Main

The Cable Multiplex and Compression Center ( KCC ; also Cable Compression Center ) is an alternative feed channel for digital television programs operated by ARD , in which the signals are not transmitted to the cable network operator via satellite as usual , but via IP multicast .

Transmission path

The KCC has been operated on the premises of the Hessischer Rundfunk in Frankfurt am Main since May 26, 2008 , which has upgraded the ARD star , which was previously located there . The service provider ancotel (now Equinix ) was chosen as the transfer point in the cable networks , as all major cable network operators already had a connection to their colocation and interconnection facilities.

To ensure failure safety, redundant cable routes as well as fail-safe power supply and air conditioning are used, which means that the downtime should be less than a second even in the event of a cable break.

Use by cable network operators

The cable network operators Unitymedia and Kabel BW have been using the transmission route since the month it was set up, and NetCologne also took it over in the same year.
