Schlebusch cabinet

The Schlebusch cabinet formed the state government of Braunschweig from 1945 to 1946.

background

Hubert Schlebusch was from the British military governmentfrom April 24, 1945 onwards as the first Prime Minister of the State of Braunschweig. The individual members of the established National Council were appointed by the commander of the military government. One of the tasks of this national council was to adopt measures to alleviate the plight of the population. Alfred Kubel was elected first speaker, Otto Arnholz was his deputy. The council consisted of a main committee and several technical committees. The main committee was constituted on January 12, 1946. On January 26, 1946, the military government ordered the formation of a state parliament. The entire district administrator was taken over and expanded from 25 to 50 members. On February 11 and 12, 1946, the first extraordinary sessions of the new state parliament were held. The first ordinary session of the Landtag took place on February 21, 1946 with 40 members. On May 7, 1946, Alfred Kubel took over this position.

Until a new one was drawn up, the rules of procedure of January 25, 1927 of the former Braunschweig State Parliament were in effect.
