Kadri Kõusaar

Kadri Kõusaar (born September 8, 1980 in Pärnu ) is an Estonian writer, film director and journalist.

life and work

Kadri Kõusaar has been drawing comics for Estonian newspapers since she was 13 . In 1998 she graduated from Tallinna Inglise Kolledž . In 2003 she graduated from the University of Tartu with a degree in Hispanic Studies . She works as an editor for the features section of the Estonian weekly newspaper Eesti Ekspress . She also works as a journalist on Estonian radio and television.

Kadri Kõusaar became known with her two novels Ego (2001) and Vaba tõus (2004), which received great attention in Estonia.

In 2007 she made the feature film Magnus . Magnus was the first Estonian film to be included in the main program of the Cannes International Film Festival . He describes the development of a neglected, sensitive boy who seeks death in adulthood and wants to be brought back to life by his father. However, the Harju District Court banned the screening and distribution of the film in Estonia because of a violation of personal rights . The ban was lifted on March 23, 2009 by the Tallinn District Court.
