Kaeso

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kaeso (also Caeso ) is a rare Roman given name . Its abbreviation is K . The name is perhaps of Etruscan origin; in antiquity it was represented as "the one born by caesarean section " (from Greek καίω "cut"). Theodor Mommsen provides a different explanation: Since the first name only appeared among the patrician gentes of the Fabier and Quinctier (and rarely also with the Aciliern and Duiliern ), who first established the priesthood of the luperci , it should use the ritual "beating" (Latin caedere ) at the Luperkalienfest .
