When it first ran in the December 3, 1984 elections, the NNP immediately won 14 of the 15 seats in the Grenada House of Representatives , and Blaize became Prime Minister. After his death in 1989 he was followed by his fellow party member Ben Jones . In the elections on March 13, 1990, the NNP slumped to two seats and lost the office of Prime Minister. In the elections on June 20, 1995, it was again the strongest force with 8 seats, and Keith Claudius Mitchell became Prime Minister. In the elections on January 18, 1999, it received all 15 seats, in the elections on November 27, 2003 8 seats. In the elections on July 8, 2008, she only got 4 seats and had to go into opposition.
