Kai Aslak Mykkänen (born July 31, 1979 in Espoo ) is a Finnish politician of the conservative National Collection Party . He has been Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Finland in the Sipilä Cabinet since February 12, 2018 .

Life

Mykkänen was elected to the parliament of Finland with 5,260 votes in the 2015 general election. From 2015 to 2016 he was a member of the Environment Committee and the Grand Committee. On June 22, 2016, after the resignation of Lenita Toivakka , Mykkänen was appointed Minister for Foreign Trade and Development in the Sipilä Cabinet. On February 12, 2018, he became Finnish Minister of the Interior as successor to Paula Riskko .

From 2000 to 2001 Mykkänen was chairman of the youth organization of the gathering party and from 2001 to 2005 he was a member of the Espoo City Council.
