Kai Sassenberg

Kai Sassenberg (* 1971 in Rinteln ) is a German social psychologist . Since 2007 he has been head of the social processes working group at the Leibniz Institute for Knowledge Media and professor at the University of Tübingen .

Life

Kai Sassenberg studied psychology at the University of Mannheim , received his doctorate in 1999 at the Georg-August University of Göttingen and completed his habilitation in 2004 on group -based self-regulation - an explanation of the behavior of group members on the basis of self-regulation theories at the University of Jena . From 2002 to 2007 he headed the junior research group “Motivational and Cognitive Determinants of Social Discrimination ” at the University of Jena . In 2007 Kai Sassenberg was Associate Professor of Organizational Psychology at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen in the Netherlands. Since 2007 he has been researching at the Leibniz Institute for Knowledge Media in Tübingen and also teaches as a professor at the University of Tübingen. Kai Sassenberg has been President of the European Association of Social Psychology since 2017.

research

Kai Sassenberg's research deals with the influences of motivation (in particular of self-regulatory processes) on social interaction and collaboration. He pays particular attention to the effects of using digital media. Another research focus is on the regulation of the self in the context of social power , leadership and competition. He also researches the effects of social norms and their violations, as well as the influence of emotions and cognitive conflicts on the processing of self-relevant information, especially in the health sector.
