Kaiser-Kümmel from JA Gilka

Kaiser-Kümmel is a lightly sweetened caraway brandy made from caraway oil, sugar and 38 percent alcohol . The manufacturer is JA Gilka .

Members of the Gilka family had been producing the drink since 1836. According to some sources, Gilka was also drunk in the German imperial family and gave the producers several titles of commercial council and purveyor to the court; In Theodor Fontane's novel Frau Jenny Treibel , however, the schnapps is rather disparagingly mentioned as a drink for a little house tailor. In Joachim Ringelnatz 's song from a Berlin cab window , Gilka is more likely to be ascribed to the lower classes of the population.

“Kaiser-Kümmel” was nevertheless consumed at the Viennese court. The owners of the Liqör factory JA Gilka, Theodor and Hermann Gilka, received the title of imperial court supplier for this .
