from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The poem Emperor and Proletarians ( Romanian Împărat și proletar ) by the Romanian poet Mihai Eminescu was published on December 1, 1874 in the journal Convorbirile literare . Mihai Eminescu wrote it during his studies in Berlin (1872–74).

The events of around 1870 had an effect on Mihai Eminescu, especially the Paris Commune , the preparation of which the first part alludes to.

content

The action begins in the " dark pub ", where one of the visitors gives a speech about justice, the power and property of the rich. In this speech he castigates religion, the idleness of the upper classes, denies the otherworldly world and the reward promised there, the effect of the laws on the wealthy, calls for the abolition of the order that " divides the peoples into servants and masters ".

Caesar sees the generation's striving for the solution of unsolvable questions, questions about the omnipresent passion, the fate, the similarity of the paths of life in all appearances, ascertains the same excessive desires whose " germs are everywhere scattered by the same secret of life ". The emperor regards all desires as powerless, all reason as fruitless.

reception

The poem expresses the pessimistic view of human existence (together with Scrisoarea I ), the insight of the emperor, who is clear about the rule of evil, is shaped by Schopenhauer's ideas. The idea of salvation emerges through the taming of the will to live.
