Imperial history

The term imperial history can generally refer to a history of the ancient Roman or medieval Byzantine or Roman-German emperors . Examples of ancient imperial stories are

• the Roman story of Cassius Dio ;
• the historical work of Herodian ;
• various late antique imperial stories such as:
  • the so-called Enmann Imperial History ,
  • the imperial story of Aurelius Victor ,
  • the work of Eutropius .
  • the anonymous Epitome de Caesaribus ,
  • the work of Ammianus Marcellinus and
  • the anonymous and highly controversial Historia Augusta .

For the Middle Ages, the work of the Byzantine Michael Psellos and the high mediaeval imperial chronicle should be mentioned.
