Kaiserstrasse 102

The Villa Kaiserstraße 102 in Offenbach am Main is an under monument protection standing neoclassical residential building.

Construction work

The building was built around 1865 by the Offenbach construction company Casimir Hasenbach in neoclassical style. In 1890 it was expanded with a small extension at the rear with a patio . The characteristic well-designed, four-axle plaster facade is at the Kaiserstrasse side facing window jambs in stone, and the emphasis on the corners by slightly projecting risalits . The facade is characterized by rectangular window frames with side pillars, Ionic capitals and egg- shaped capitals , protruding window roofs and parapets, some with balustrades. Along the Goethestrasse, the middle windows have lateral, now empty, figural niches. A protruding cornice is executed as the upper end . The historic enclosing walls of the property have also been preserved.

The building is a cultural monument for historical, artistic and urban planning reasons.

restoration

The building was owned by the city for a long time and was sold to the current owners in 2015, who built three rental apartments in the house. First of all, extensive excavation work was carried out in order to identify and secure the historical substance. Inside, some of the items were still under construction, such as wooden floors, parts of the lamperie or coffered doors.

To legalize the living space in the attic, an approval process was carried out and the roof was re-covered. All existing, non-listed windows were exchanged for listed windows based on the illustrations known from the construction period. The facade has been redesigned. Existing listed buildings, such as the partially existing lampering or the parquet floors, have been renovated and supplemented in accordance with listed buildings. New materials were adapted to the existing one. The completely renewed sanitary facilities were made in a modern form, according to the monument. The historical enclosure was also restored.

The Offenbach Monument Advisory Board honored the owners with the Offenbach Monument Protection Prize 2018 in recognition of the renovation work. An important criterion of the Monument Advisory Board in its decision to award the prize in favor of the Kaiserstraße 102 property was the private commitment that went far beyond the usual level.

Others

The villa was a Luminale site in 2018 . In the Lichtreflex project by Lydia and Nikolai Pommerer, four of the empty figure niches were revived. This architectural space was filled with a moving light image using cybernetic light sculptures.
