Calendar control

Example within the Gnome desktop

A calendar control element, also known as a datepicker (for “date picker”), is a combined control element of graphical user interfaces . It is used to simplify the input, selection and display of a calendar date .

A calendar control element is the combination of a special text field and a calendar that, depending on the GUI toolkit, can be permanently visible or displayed as a dropdown / pop-up . The latter acts like a drop-down list , but contains a calendar. The date can be set both by entering it in the text field and by selecting a specific day in the calendar.

The name DatePicker is derived from the fact that a certain date can be "picked" with the mouse in the calendar. A corresponding control element for selecting a time is called the TimePicker.
