Kali (demon)
Kali ( Sanskrit कलि kali , literally: "worry", "quarrel") is a demon in Hinduism . According to Bhagavatapurana 1.17, he was placed by the virtuous Maharaja Parikshit and punished for torturing a cow ( Bhumi , the earth) and a bull ( Dharma , the law). Kali was not killed, but he had to leave Maharaja Parikshit's empire. At his request, Kali was assigned the places to stay where gambling , alcohol consumption , illegitimate sexuality and the slaughter of animals take place. In addition, Kali was allowed to live in gold , as possession of gold entails immoral behavior.
Kali's arrival after the death of Krishna marks the beginning of the Kali-Yuga , the current Iron Age , according to the Hindu point of view . This was named after the demon (and not after the goddess Kali ). The confusion of Kali ( kali ), the demon, and Kali ( kālī ), the black goddess, is a common misunderstanding.
