Kalpi is a city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh . It is located on the right bank of the Yamuna . Kalpi is 78 kilometers southwest of the city of Kanpur , with which it is connected by both roads and rails.

The city is part of the Jalaun District . Kalpi has the status of Nagar Palika Parishad . The city is divided into 25 wards . It had 51,670 inhabitants on the cut-off date of the 2011 census, of which 27,414 were men and 24,256 women. Hindus make up the majority of the city's population with a share of over 61%. The literacy rate in 2011 was 71.86%.

Kalpi is said to have been founded by King Vasudeva . The city is also said to have been the birthplace of the mythical sage Vyasa , who is considered to be the folder and editor of important ancient Indian scriptures and who is said to have founded the Vedanta .
