The Kalvarienberg on St. Annaberg in Upper Silesia dates from the early 18th century and runs between the towns of Sankt Annaberg and Poremba . The Calvary originally consisted of 33 chapels, more were added from 1781 to 1789 and in the 19th century and 1910. The entire facility is under monument protection. It has also been part of the Pomnik Historii (Monument to History) since 2004. The Kalvarienberg in St. Annaberg was originally characterized by its bilingual lettering in German and Polish, but the German lettering was destroyed after 1945.

history

The Kalvarienberg was donated in 1700 by Count Georg Adam Franz von Gaschin (1643–1719), who owned the lands around the Annaberg. This was accompanied by the fulfillment of the wish of the late Imperial Count Melchior Ferdinand von Gaschin (1581–1665), who stipulated this in his will and had already founded the Franciscan monastery on St. Annaberg in 1656. Its construction lasted from May 27, 1700 to July 24, 1709. Von Gaschin was able to win over the architect Domenico Signo, who lives in Opole and comes from Italy, for his building project, who designed and built thirty small and three large chapels. The Calvary of Kalwaria Zebrzydowska served as a model .

However, it took several years until the Calvary was used for its intended purpose. The chapels were initially unused. The local Franciscans were initially not interested in the new facility and its management. From 1756 to 1764 Anton von Gaschin donated a renovation to the chapels. The first prayer on Calvary did not take place until September 14, 1764. This year the Franciscans took over and consecrated the chapels. From then on, the complex developed into a destination for pilgrims. In 1910, the last chapel of the Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Heaven was built.

In 1983 a service with Pope John Paul II took place in the fields within the Calvary Path . In 1997 the Sanctuary Góry Św. Anny , who renovated 27 of the chapels from 1997 to 2009.
