Kalvarienbergkapelle (Altomünster)
The Kalvarienbergkapelle is located on a steep hill east of the market town Altomünster in the district of Dachau ( Bavaria ). It is the only church in the Dachau district that has a "holy staircase". Together with the stations of the cross, it is a listed building .
history
The Kalvarienkapelle is located on the so-called Dismasberg, between Altomünster and Hohenried. It was built in 1694 by the Order of the Birgit in Altomünster . In the 19th century, the "Holy Staircase", which was originally located in the open air, was incorporated into the chapel through an extension. The columns of the 12 Stations of the Cross on both sides of the stairs leading to the chapel were given new colored pictures in 2005, which the Landsberg artist Claus Hager designed based on the occidental-Christian color symbolism . On Good Fridays , the chapel is traditionally the destination of the devout Christians from the Altomünster parish.
