The Chamber for Workers and Salaried Employees for Tyrol ( AK Tirol , Arbeitserkammer Tirol ) is the public-law interest group for more than 345,000 employees .

history

Founded until 1934

After the "Law on the establishment of chambers for workers and employees ( Chamber of Labor)" was passed by the constitutional national assembly on February 26, 1920 (StGBl 100/1921), the Chamber of Labor began its activity in Tyrol on May 1, 1921 . For this purpose, premises in the Hofburg in Innsbruck were rented.

On April 16 and 17, 1921, the first election for the Chamber for Workers and Employees for Tyrol was held. On May 1, 1921, the AK Tirol started its activities in Innsbruck. The first constituent assembly took place on June 16, 1921. On this occasion, AK President Wilhelm Scheibein expressed the hope that “the establishment of the Chamber of Labor will bring a new era to both workers and employees!” Official offices were soon established in the districts of Kitzbühel, Kufstein, Landeck and Lienz .

In 1930 the former building of the National Bank at Maximilianstrasse 7 in Innsbruck was purchased. This building has been the headquarters of AK Tirol since 1932.

Dissolution of AK Tirol

The year 1933 brought the end of the Chamber's organs, freely elected by the employees. They were replaced by administrative commissions by ordinance of the federal government. President Wilhelm Scheibein was removed from office.

After the occupation of Austria in 1938, the chambers of labor and the trade union federation were completely dissolved on June 10, 1938 by order of the “Standstill Commissioner for Associations, Organizations and Associations”, the assets were confiscated and transferred to the “German Labor Front”. The civil service was dismissed without entitlement to a pension. The district leadership of the NSDAP settled in the chamber building, and when they fled in April 1945 they devastated or abducted a large part of the facilities.

Reconstruction of the Chamber

With the decision of the state government, the re-establishment of the chamber on July 16, 1945 was made possible.

tasks

The legal basis is the " Federal Act on the Chambers of Workers and White-collar Workers and the Federal Chamber for Workers and White-collar Workers ( Chamber of Labor Act 1992, AKG)". The employees of AK Tirol take care of the ongoing support, advice and legal protection of the AK members. The self-administration takes care of the political and content-related orientation of the AK. This consists of 70 councilors from various parliamentary groups, who come from a wide variety of professions and regions, and meet twice a year in the general assembly .

The chambers are called upon to represent and promote the social, economic, professional and cultural interests of employees. They support the members of AK Tirol in questions of labor, social, consumer, housing and tax law, in economic, youth and educational issues. In total, around 320,000 inquiries are made each year.
